โ Essentials Checklist
Photography
Capture the spectacular emergence. Low-light capability is key.

Texas summer = sun, heat, and mosquitoes. Prepare accordingly.
Mosquitoes are active at dusk, exactly when bats emerge. DEET or picaridin recommended.
If arriving early (90 min before sunset), you'll catch the Texas afternoon sun.
Wide-brimmed hat for the wait. Also protects from... bat droppings on the bridge.
Polarized lenses help with glare off the water during sunset.
Texas weather is unpredictable. A packable rain jacket takes up minimal space.

๐ก๏ธ Austin Weather Tips
It's hot. Texas summers regularly hit 100ยฐF+. Sunscreen and water are non-negotiable, even for evening viewing.
Mosquitoes love dusk. The bats are actually helping by eating millions of them, but you'll still want repellent.
Rain appears suddenly. Texas thunderstorms can pop up fast. A packable rain jacket is wise.
Bat droppings are possible. If you're standing directly on the bridge, a hat is a good idea.
